Hang in there Kiddo is a series of drawings that explores nostalgia and the constant fading of memories – of growing up in urban Bengal, attempting desperately to hold onto them while they gradually get overwritten while living in a new, foreign environment. Drawing inspiration from recurring imagery prevalent in the Bengali household, the city of Kolkata and 90s pop culture, the works in this series evoke the layered experience of both physical and mental displacement. In the drawings, I experiment with unconventional ways of mark-making and exploring different ways of visually integrating elements of the nuanced home, imagery embedded in nostalgia and memories of growing up in Kolkata.
